Gardening For a Family of 6

Growing enough to feed a family of 6 for a whole year requires a big garden.  For us it means 2 large gardens totaling 13,000 square feet.  Below are some pictures that I took today.  They look nice this time of year.
This is garden #2

Some tomatoes and cucumbers

 2nd Pea Patch

2nd Bean Patch

13 Rows of Corn

Garden #1

Roma Tomatoes

"Big Boy" Tomato

1st Bean Patch

Onions

Beets

My little herb garden.  Not much in it, only my 2nd year.

Heirloom tomatoes

Some fruits of our labor

Blessings to ya!!

  1. I have just discovered your lovely blog, Dear, and am now following you...♥♥ I am just in awe of your gardens! We have a pretty large garden (with some smaller separate ones for tomatoes, herbs, and cucumbers), but we are really fighting the crabgrass...how do you keep your so weed-free? (Let me guess...lots of hard work!)...So nice to "meet" you!
    Best,
    Anne

    1. Hi Anne,
Thanks for joining me here. Probably the best way we keep the weeds under control is by my husband tilling it up between in the rows and around the tomatoes, cukes, squash, etc.. Then we just have to hand put around the actual plants.

  2. I love to watch a garden grow and those beautiful straight rows. Looks like you already have a nice bounty! In a former life I did the whole thing. I still have the canning shelf that I lined up all my gleaming jars on. So satisfying. You'll have a huge yeild won't you? Best to you! J.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. If all goes well we should have a huge yield. Somethings didn't produce well last year, but it appears to be doing quite well this year.
