"A Little Madness in the Spring"...

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden.
 ~Ruth Stout

Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!
~Thomas Blackburn

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.  ~Doug Larson

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.  ~Proverb

Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.  ~Virgil A. Kraft

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.  ~Margaret Atwood

In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.  ~Mark Twain

I think that no matter how old or infirm I may become, I will always plant a large garden in the spring.  Who can resist the feelings of hope and joy that one gets from participating in nature's rebirth?  ~Edward Giobbi

Yesterday the twig was brown and bare;
To-day the glint of green is there;
Tomorrow will be leaflets spare;
I know no thing so wondrous fair,
No miracle so strangely rare.
I wonder what will next be there!
~L.H. Bailey

The seasons are what a symphony ought to be:  four perfect movements in harmony with each other.  ~Arthur Rubenstein

And Spring arose on the garden fair,

Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;

And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

—Percy Bysshe Shelley

The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.    —Harriet Ann Jacobs

April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.
—William Shakespeare

A little madness in the Spring
Is wholesome even for the King,
But God be with the Clown —
Who ponders this tremendous scene —
This whole Experiment of Green —
As if it were his own! --Emily Dickinson

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.
--Robert Frost

  1. What lovely springtime quotes. It really is a glorious time of year. I sat in the backyard this afternoon for a bit, admiring the newly opened yellow irises. Sigh.

  2. Good Morning Susanna, I love Spring time and I think my favourite quote is the one written by William Shakespeare, "April has put the spirit of youth in everything". That is so true. During winter the plants rest, but come the spring, the days are longer and there is nothing more exciting that seeing the buds on the trees or the fresh new shoots peeping out of the ground.
    Your quotes are beautiful and I have enjoyed my time with you, so I have become a new follower. I hope you will have the time to visit me at Ivy, Phyllis and Me!
    Best Wishes
